Each year, the race is run in honor of a members of the Breezy Point and south Brooklyn community who are no longer with us. Whether they supported the race and Heartshare directly, or just made the community better —they represent the best of us and why we give back.

WILLIAM EDWARDS
A lifelong Brooklynite and proud veteran, William "Billy" Edwards lived a life defined by courage, resilience, and deep love for his family. A Purple Heart recipient, beloved father and grandfather, and friend to many, he overcame every challenge with joy and generosity.

RAY MARTEN
The heart of every room—and every race. A Marine Park native, devoted husband and father of four, and longtime 5K participant, Ray embodied perseverance and positivity, even in the face of brain cancer. A natural athlete, beach lover, and eternal optimist, Ray's legacy reminds us to fight hard, laugh often, and live fully.

JOHN MOLLOY
A decorated NYPD detective, counter-terrorism expert, and true family man, John Molloy lived to serve—his city, his colleagues, and above all, his loved ones. Whether protecting New Yorkers or leading Thanksgiving toasts, he did it with humility, humor, and heart. John’s impact was quiet but powerful, and deeply felt. We run to honor his life of purpose.

Since opening our first group home in 1977, we have focused on empowering people with autism and other developmental disabilities to reach their full potential through education, vocational training, the arts, housing, family support and long-term therapy services. When someone enters Heartshare, they receive our commitment: to champion and support them, to create pathways to health and stability, to help them achieve their personal definition of independence.
